October 2003: Web Hosting.

The MANOVERBOARD Telegraph, No. 7.

A very Happy Fall greeting to you. We hope you're enjoying the changes in color that this time of year invariably brings. The Telegraph is a monthly newsletter from MANOVERBOARD, a Web and print design company based in Brooklyn, New York. MANOVERBOARD creates and develops clean, clear, and compelling websites and visual resources for small and large organizations. October's newsletter focuses on MANOVERBOARD Hosting, No-Flake Paint, and how to do a lot with a little (reading).

Recent Client: No-Flake Paint

This month, MANOVERBOARD launched a new website for No-Flake Paint, a decorative painting company located in the Hudson Valley. The company, which creates unique and unusual faux finishing, murals, and other artwork, required a funky blend of 50s modernism with user-friendly navigation and easy-to-manage content. The site has already received great feedback. Much continued success to No-Flake Paint.

Recommended Books: Web Design on a Shoestring

You might wonder why a design firm would recommend a book with the title "Web Design on a Shoestring". This new book, by Carrie Bickner, Assistant Director for Digital Information and System Design at The New York Public Library, is one of those books that I wish I had written. With a cogent voice, Bickner shows how a small budget, good planning, and an understanding of today's Internet can together pack a powerful web design punch. (Of course, a strong Web design firm is critical to the mix.) The book covers the importance of good copy, designing with less artifice, and inexpensive content management systems, as well as hosting and registering your domain name. "Shoestring" is highly recommended for anyone who needs to design, re-design, or re-develop their website—which pretty much includes most of us.
