April 2005: The New Telegraph.
The MANOVERBOARD Telegraph, No. 17.
Welcome back to the redesigned MANOVERBOARD TELEGRAPH. It's been almost four months since we've published our last email about MANOVERBOARD ideas, clients, and partners. Why did it take so long?
It's all about the software.
After two years of publishing the newsletter, I became increasingly dissatisfied with the design and reporting results of my newsletter distribution vendor. It was great for a long while but, in working with other clients, I found that it was difficult to create visually interesting HTML newsletters and the service could not handle XHTML — the stuff of Web standards and our bread and butter — coherently.
The great news is that we've found an excellent HTML newsletter vendor who allows clean code, fully customized designs, and great reports.
Three clients have already signed up with MANOVERBOARD to create and produce their monthly newsletters and I'm very excited to be back with THE TELEGRAPH, using email software that is powerful, flexible, and coherent — just like our websites. If you'd like more information, please contact me.
Cleaning Up the List
One nice feature about this new software is that lists can be modified easily. If you're not interested in continuing to be on this list, that's totally cool. You can easily anytime.
But I hope you won't!
Here's what's planned for the next few months of THE TELEGRAPH:
- More information about HTML newsletters, specifically focusing on design.
- Further details about the business benefits of Web Standards-based websites. The June 2004 issue focused on the business logic of Web standards but we'd like to look at the financial savings of building websites with Web standards.
- New information about managing your website and the benefits and costs of doing it yourself versus hiring a vendor.
- New featured websites by a number of new clients.
Best wishes,
Andrew Boardman, Principal
