In 2018, we are revamping (or repurposing) the Purpose Project, providing a similar level of pro bono support within a slightly different framework. We learned a lot from last year and will be changing our application criteria somewhat.

We build a guide for Beeproject Apiaries and to standardize their brand identity, heightening visibility and credibility in the minds of customers.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, widely credited with inventing the web in 1991, recently received the Turing Award. The prize is basically a Nobel for nerds—and it includes a $1 million in funds courtesy of our friends at Google. The early and sometimes goofy web that Sir Berners-Lee created is now a sophisticated, trusted and (sometimes hostile) reserve of information, ideas, and communities.
Manoverboard celebrated its 15th anniversary in January. While I’m not big on celebrating business-focused events, I am well aware that this is a milestone. I’ve reflected upon this anniversary quite a bit, actually. Staying in business for a single year is hard. Doing it for 15 years somehow seems like defeating the odds.
I like to think that life is like a marathon, in that everyone races for their own reasons. Sometimes you meet up with fellow runners and other times you come to a fork in the road where you part ways. You must be lead by your inner voice telling you what is important, rather then just finishing the race with the best time or the most calories burned.
Many companies are doing some pretty amazing things in their communities and beyond. And yet, some of these organizations are not talking about the goodwill they are creating.
I never liked the word “branding”. It’s so undifferentiated and treacly and it can often mean plain-old “design”. For many businesses, “branding” is just the latest decoration on top of a stale cake that has been served over and over.
The answer is a resounding yes! Today’s Canadian technology sector, many of whom are B Corporations, are giving back by investing in the innovators of tomorrow.
