A new and semi-remote position for Junior to Intermediate Web Developer at Manoverboard

Manoverboard is a company of designers, developers and communicators seeking to create a better world by design. We are a purpose-driven company focused on creating strategies, visual identities, websites, and content for socially responsible businesses, large nonprofits, and educational institutions.

We currently seek a detail-oriented individual who can write modern code to translate designs into websites. We use open-source technologies, including WordPress and Jamstack-related tools, to create beautiful websites that are effective, highly usable, and fundamentally accessible. The new web developer will be responsible for translating finished and near-final designs into working digital platforms and technical implementation. This person will work closely with all members of the team, including our two current developers. This is a full-time position with an initial contract of three months.

The right candidate will care about the future of design and technology, adhere to our code of ethical standards, remain calm under pressure, have good communications skills and embrace technical challenges. There is room to grow in this position as we continue to service clients around the globe.

Manoverboard is soon going remote! The ideal candidate is comfortable working from home most of the week (9 am to 5:30 pm) and is available for individual and team meetings once or twice a week. There may be an opportunity to work and meet in a co-working space.

Job Tasks / Core Responsibilities

Here are a number of tasks that you would be doing in a typical work week. Manoverboard will provide any training required to complete these tasks.

  • WordPress maintenance for existing client websites
  • Working with clients to create web-ready written and digital content
  • Content entry and migration with WordPress and Jamstack websites
  • Working with other developers to code custom websites
  • Assisting with integrating third party systems (donation, or ecommerce)
  • Testing websites for browser compatibility
  • Reviewing and auditing websites for accuracy, accessibility and performance

Experience & Skills

The following are must-have skills and experience.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write clearly, concisely and kindly
  • Intermediate knowledge of the following coding languages:
    • HTML5
    • CSS3
    • PHP (for WordPress)
  • Some understanding of current UX and information architecture principles
  • Can create responsive websites from design files and documentation
  • Can code customized WordPress themes
  • Some familiarity with modern accessibility standards (AA or AAA)
  • Interest in social and environmental challenges facing our city, country and planet

Additional Skills

We’re looking for someone who could have skills in other fields as well! The following are extremely valuable and can be of service to our team and our clients.

  • Graphic design skills for web, print or visual identity
  • Web animation and interaction design
  • Marketing or social media content
  • Technical or editorial writing
  • SEO
  • Jamstack technologies
  • JavaScript libraries or frameworks like React, GSAP or similar
  • Other coding or programming languages
  • Experience with databases (SQL or other)
  • Network or website security and performance optimization
