Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) is a member-based organization of design professionals, educators, administrators, students and associates in communications, marketing, media and design related fields. Since 1956, GDC has been Canada’s national association for design professionals, advancing design through advocacy, education, community building, and certification.
We were commissioned to design and develop a new site for the Manitoba chapter of the GDC. To provide maximum impact, we utilized large portrait photography with clean typography in a scrolling format. Powerful photography and simple messaging showcased nine GDC members from the province and their reasons for being members of the organization.
The website was positively received by both the provincial and national design community. Thousands have visited the website, helping to make the chapter and national organization more visible internationally. The typeface used on the website is Gibson, designed by our colleague Rod McDonald, one of the foremost type designers in Canada. Proceeds from the sale of the Gibson typeface are used to support GDC design education initiatives. “Why GDC?” received a prestigious Honorable Mention from Awwwards, a peer-evaluated design organization that recognizes online design, creativity and innovation.
