In 2014, the University of Manitoba decided to shelve their seven-decade old weekly campus paper, The Bulletin, in favour of a robust and dynamic digital product – UM Today.
The decision was made after careful reflection and after learning through a survey that nearly 80% of staff and faculty would prefer a digital publication.
We worked with the UM Today team to develop a visually appealing portal with a mandate to expand the audience. The site now shares frequently updated content that is meaningful to staff, faculty, students, the community, media, and alumni all over the world.
“In a recent poll, 79 percent of current staff and faculty indicated they would prefer an online source of campus news over a printed version. We listened, and voila: UM Today is here!”
Our goal was to develop a site that was responsive across all devices and platforms while carefully respecting the university’s existing brand guidelines.
The site includes a featured top story, important recent stories, social media feeds, RSS events feeds from the University’s main site, community links, and internal ads. There is also an “In Focus” section boldly showcasing a particularly hot topic.
The site captures the energy, vision, and success of the University of Manitoba. On top of that, the site is very easy for UM personnel to manage.
