Red River College Polytechnic (RRC Polytech) is Manitoba’s largest institute of applied learning, serving over 22,000 students through on-site and distance learning.
With more than 200 part- and full-time programs available, the RRC Polytech website, content, and course catalogue must be easy to experience, access, comprehend and update. RRC Polytech’s web content was distributed across several content management systems and servers and had become difficult to manage. The College asked Manoverboard to assist with an overhaul of its web content strategy, structure, presentation, and platform.
An audit of the site mapped existing content to new hierarchies, eliminating redundancies by merging sections. We rewrote all copy to ensure that the site's messaging had a consistent voice and was clear, accurate, and helpful. Our efforts reduced the website's 600 pages to 200, radically improving the navigability and menus so that visitors could get the information they were seeking faster.
We also addressed RRC Polytech’s online course catalogue system, which contains over 100 full-time programs and 100 continuing education programs across eight campuses.
Pointing to best practices in findability and searchability, we presented new wireframes for consideration. The result was a system of new UX models that would simplify site exploration, helping students and prospects find the most appropriate and relevant programs and courses based on interest area, delivery method, duration, campus, price, and start date.
Our final task was to develop a new WordPress multisite network based on RRC Polytech's design and using a system to fit the newly-crafted content hierarchies. The work included multi-week planning, setup and implementation of the new network, migration of all copy and visuals from two content management systems accompanied by continuous quality assurance and client review. Going forward, RRC Polytech was able to iterate and develop as required using our codebase. The new platform gave RRC Polytech the tools and flexibility to meet the demands of rapid content creation and design updates.
